The Radiation Therapy and Isotope Therapy Section in Lund is now seeking a Senior Physician in Oncology responsible for our MR Linac. In 2025, we have procured an MR Linac, which is planned to be in place by September 2026, where both research and clinical operations will be conducted. Therefore, we need to strengthen the team and are primarily looking for a new colleague to work with our MR Linac or to enable another colleague to be freed up for this purpose.

At the radiation therapy unit in Lund, we treat patients from the entire Southern healthcare region and are one of Sweden's larger radiotherapy centers. The unit provides external beam radiation therapy, brachytherapy, and isotope therapy. We participate in the national collaboration on proton therapy and plan selected patients for proton therapy in Uppsala. We have 15 specialist physicians in the section, of which about half are active researchers part-time. Several of the physicians are active in national and international collaborations regarding radiation therapy. We run a national course in radiotherapy for ST physicians in oncology, which is highly appreciated.

The section is part of the area of operations (VO) hematology, oncology, and radiation physics, which operates a highly specialized service with approximately 900 employees offering cancer treatment to patients throughout the Southern healthcare region. We provide oncological inpatient and outpatient care in Lund, Malmö, Helsingborg, Kristianstad, and Ystad.

We are a research-intensive organization aimed at improving care, and our research is conducted in close collaboration with Lund University. Additionally, we work on the education of future nursing assistants, nurses, medical secretaries, physicians, and researchers.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

We welcome a senior physician in oncology to the Radiation Therapy and Isotope Therapy Section at VO hematology, oncology, and radiation physics. The position is focused on external radiation therapy.

You will work at the radiation therapy unit in Lund, where you will have primary responsibility for implementing our MR Linac in collaboration with other staff. You will have a steering group of experienced physician colleagues to assist you, where work has already begun on developing an implementation plan. You will have significant opportunities to influence this work. For those interested in research and development, there is an opportunity to receive project funding for part-time research related to MR Linac for one or several years.

You will be part of the group of radiation therapy physicians and collaborate with other colleagues. There is also the opportunity to participate in one or more of our diagnostic groups. In addition to clinical duties, both organizational development work and quality work as well as supervision of students and ST physicians are included. The position fundamentally entails 100% clinical duties and can be combined with your own research.

QUALIFICATIONS

You who apply are a licensed physician authorized to practice within Swedish healthcare. Language skills in Swedish must at least correspond to level C1 according to the Council of Europe’s scale.

For the position of senior physician, previous full-time service of at least five years (documented effective time), clinical skill and independence in radiation therapy, as well as a doctoral thesis are required. The doctoral thesis and/or specialist examination can be credited for a total of six months of clinical service. The doctoral requirement can be discussed with long documented experience in the field of radiation therapy. We would prefer you to be active in research.

At a university hospital unit, it is required that physicians have pedagogical experience and training. You may have acquired this through supervision of, for example, nursing and medical students as well as physicians in training and as a co- or main supervisor of doctoral candidates. Clearly describe in your application the pedagogical courses you have completed or planned, experience in supervision, and teaching at various levels.

It is of great importance that you have an easy time collaborating. Furthermore, you have good communication skills and find it easy to plan work, take responsibility, and make decisions. Personal suitability is highly valued.
